Electric cars seem like the future. I’ve seen more and more Tesla’s around. That weird BMW. Some Volts. I’ve even seen things like this mg electric car.
Hybrids are so common that they’ve become unremarkable. Though I did come across the hybrid that most defies logic yesterday. I worked on launching this monstrosity. It seemed just as bad then as it does now.
Now there’s a push in Europe to go completely electric.
First, Volvo announced the phasing out of conventional engines:
Volvo Cars on Wednesday became the first mainstream automaker to sound the death knell of the internal combustion engine, saying that all the models it introduces starting in 2019 will be either hybrids or powered solely by batteries.
Then France announced plans to end sales of gas and diesel Cars:
France is joining a growing movement to force the extinction of vehicles that run on fossil fuels, saying on Thursday that it would aim to end the sale of gasoline and diesel cars by 2040.”
I keep thinking that I want to hold onto my car for as long as possible as changes in the car industry (electric, driverless, shared) seem like they are just about to tip.
